Romanian Man Rescued

A 62-year-old Romanian man was rescued yesterday from a ship called the ‘Star Cosmo’ which was sailing approximately 40 miles southwest of the island of Madeira.

The alert was received by the at the Funchal Submarine Search and Rescue Coordination Center at 8:50 am, after which the Instituto Nacional de Emergência Médica (INEM), determined that an emergency medical sea evacuation was needed.  The medivac took place at 12:41 p.m with the man arriving at the Funchal Marina at 12:53 p.m.  On arrival, he was quickly transported to the Dr Nélio Mendonça Hospital by an attending Red Cross crew and ambulance.
