The Directorate of the Madeiran branch of the Trade and Services Workers’ Union (SITAM) is to deliver a request to the Regional Director of Labour tomorrow at 4 pm. The reason for this is that Pingo Doce’s has extended its employees working day to one o’clock in the morning. This, says SITAM not only causes the workers and their families additional inconvenience, but runs the risk of affecting its employee’s health and those of their families. In a statement, the trade union accused the supermarket chain of ‘ruthless exploitation of its workers.’
Pingo Doce makes an annual profit in the region of €5 million per annum.
