The Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation (ARDITI) and the Sousa / Porto Santo Line Group will sign an agreement tomorrow allowing the CETUS-Madeira to continue to carry out initiatives, research and the permanent monitoring and collection of data of cetaceans living in the waters surrounding Madeira and Porto Santo.
During the signing, a presentation on the number of cetaceans sighted in the area between 2016 and 2018 will be given by Patrícia Ferreira de Carvalho. This is part of her master’s thesis in Marine Biology and Conservation, and contains information gleaned from nearly 360 trips aboard the Lobo Marinho over the last three years, which has allowed her to record and analyse approximately 700 cetacean sightings.
The Sousa Group has also issued a statement saying that they were pleased to be part of the initiative and are looking forward to Patrícia Ferreira de Carvalho presentation, as it is essential to the group to understand as much as possible about the marine environment they operate in.
