Sea Rescue 30 Miles off Coast of Madeira

At 05.44 this morning a distress call was received by the Funchal Sub-Center for Maritime Search and Rescue (MRSC Funchal) from a fishing vessel, 30 miles southwest off the coast of Funchal called ‘Baia da Maia.’ The rescue team, which included the Regional Civil Protection Service (SRPC IP-RAM) undertook a medical evacuation of a 60-year-old Portuguese national who had been taken ill aboard the fishing boat.
By 07.02 the man had been transferred aboard the lifeguard vessel ISN-SR40 and was met at 09.30 at the Funchal marina by ambulance crews and quickly transported to Dr Nélio Mendonça Hospital, Funchal.

In other nautical news, the Porto Moniz Maritime Search and Rescue appeared to respond to a distress call this lunchtime, but as yet no further details have been released.
