On the 23rd of June, the Town Council of Ribeira Brava will be holding its thirteenth ‘São João Decoration Competition’ (Concurso de Enfeites de Fontanários). The competition starts at 16:00 and will continue until midnight and is open to every one in the parish.
In a statement, the Junta de Freguesia stated that the competition aims to ‘maintain traditions, encourage and provide children and young people with a better knowledge of public and parish information as well as teach respect for local monuments, history and regional culture.’ The Freguesia also reminds participants to inlcude typical religious decorations, the image of São João, balloons, green plants, light, animation, and if possible include the traditional supper of the above saint.
There are prizes for the top seven entrants with the first prize of €250.
Registration is free and open until the 21st of June.
