The new Savoy Hotel will use the Altice NB-IoT (NarrowBand-Internet of Things), the largest project the company has in Portugal.
In a press statement, the President of the company, Alexandre Fonseca, explained that this technology allows for a ‘much greater coverage’ and will be particularly advantageous for both business and domestic use. He went on to say that ‘this project, based in Madeira is the largest of its size in the country, and is a good example of how the company is prepared to deal with connectivity challenges.’
However, the new system is not just for domestic or small user use, as the Savoy Palace, given its considerable size will have WI-FI in all its rooms, restaurants and bars. To facilitate this, the Altice NB-IoT will provide ‘micro toppings’ which are similar to having small antennas scattered around the hotel.
This technology is already available in 4G, both in Madeira and in the Continent, with Altice accounting for 70% of the service throughout Portugal.
