The Câmara Municipal do Funchal (CMF) has advised that work will be taking place on the slopes overlooking Rua Dr Pestana Júnior. The work will take place from the former CMF supply building and the beginning of Rua Visconde Cacongo. For safety reasons the CMF has stated that there will be temporary diversions in place on Friday 31st of May and the following three Saturdays. The works will concentrate on cleaning, remedial and excavation work of the embankments and slopes along the street to prevent rock falls.
As such, the CMF has declared that it is necessary to restrict access for safety reasons, both for workers and the general public. And as such has asked for everyone’s understanding and requests that everyone complies with the new security measures especially as the Public Security Police (PSP) will be monitoring the area.
In a statement, the CMF confirm that the diversions will affect Rua Dr Pestana Júnior to Rua da Ribeira de João Gomes (south of the car wash station), the junction of Rua Visconde Cacongo and Rua da Rochinha.
On the 31st of May (Friday) between 09:30 and 20:00 and on the 1st of June (Saturday) between 09:30 and 18:00 diversions will be in place to all traffic except for public transport and local access. The PSP will be onsite to enforce all local restrictions.
On the 8th and 15th of June (Saturdays) diversions will be in place from 09:00 and 18:00, except for local access. Local buses will be re-routed along Caminho do Palheiro and Rua Conde Carvalhal.
