Strong Winds Affect Airport

This morning the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) confirmed that Madeira was still on a strong wind yellow alert. Inevitably, strong winds affected the airport yesterday as nineteen flights were either diverted or cancelled.  However, the winds around the airport this morning eased allowing several aircraft to land.

With the closure of the airport, many Madeira flights have been cancelled or diverted making it impossible for hundreds of residents, including the president of the Parish Council of Santo António to vote in the European elections.

On checking ANA  – Aeroporto da Madeira website, it would appear that the airport is functioning normally.
