High Risk of Fire

With high temperatures and lack of rain, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has issued a warning, stating that Santa Cruz, Machico and Porto Santo are ‘very high-risk forest fire areas.’ Funchal and Ponta do Sol are thought to be at ‘high” risk,’ while the rest of Madeira is on a ‘moderate forest fire risk’ alert

The meteorological index of fire hazards is calculated by studying the various fuels present in the forest soil and through the observation of meteorological conditions, such as current temperatures, relative humidity, wind intensity and the amount of rainfall in 24 hours.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA), this weather is set to continue until next Monday, and they ask everyone to be vigilant.
