On the 15th of May the Marmeleiros Hospital, Funchal commemorated Euromelanoma Day by holding a screening service. The uptake was positive as a record number of 160 people attended the event. Figures also suggest that in the last year, twenty-one cases of melanoma have been detected and that the number of people affected by this type of cancer remains steady and within the national average.
The Secretary for Health, Pedro Ramos stated that the screening highlighted the importance of being vigilant and the health service’s commitment in the prevention and treating of cancers.
