Reports confirm that the fire that broke out yesterday at 6 pm in Fontaínhas, Qunita Grande, is now under control. The fire which engulfed a forested area of is still burning, but this appears to be debris that was cut to prevent the fire from spreading, and there is no risk to life or property. Even so, there are still two firefighters at the scene, ensuring that the fire does not re-ignite and cause further damage
During the night the firefighters from Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters were assisted by the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters to help control the flames as the fire spread into inaccessible areas.
Although the origin of the fire is not known for sure, arson is thought to be the probable cause. As such, the Public Security Police (PSP) are at the scene.
