Although many people think that the flower festivals’ main attractions are within Funchal there is really a great deal going on in other parts of the island. As an example, the Municipality of Porto Moniz is holding a series of events which run from today until the 26th of May.
Activities include: –
Sunday 5th of May – Distribution of flowers to ladies using the cable car to visit Calhau das Achadas.
Thursday 8th of May – Decoration of the ‘Tree of Hope’ by young and old alike. The event takes place at 3 pm at the Praça do Lyra, Porto Moniz.
Wednesday 15th of May – Decoration of the garden at the entrance of Vila do Porto Moniz in the town by local school children. The decorations will be made from recyclable materials. The event starts at 2.30 pm.
2nd – 26th of May – Porto Moniz, Ribeira da Janela and Seixal in bloom.
So if you are looking to do something different, Porto Moniz and the surrounding areas are a great place to visit for a little flower festival magic all of their own.
