The memorial mass held last night in Caniço, honouring the victims of the bus crash was an emotional one. During the service twenty-nine children, each representing one of the dead, walked slowly past the alter holding a candle.
After the service, the congregation walked to the scene of the accident. A minutes silence was held and final prayers offered to all those involved in the tragedy. The memorial mass was attended by popular figures in the community as well as several politicians.
In light of the tragedy it has been announced that the bus driver has been discharged from hospital. However, on advice from clinical psychologist Nivalda Fernandes, he has been admitted to a clinic here on the island. The reason for this is that he still needs both psychological and medical help before returning home. Only the tour guide remains in hospital, and her condition is said to be improving.
