Aerial Fire Control

With the spate of recent fires and a dry winter, it is reassuring to know that the aerial firefighting support will continue to operate until 2022.  According to an agreement the regional government has signed with the Portuguese Air Force (FAP), the Madeiran administration will spend €2.4 million euros to ensure that Madeira’s firefighting service has access to an aerial water bomber until 2022.  This equates to €615 thousand per year.

As already noted in 2018, the use of an aerial water bomber during the fire season contributed vastly to the success in which the islands firefighters were able to operate and control forest fires.
