The Madeira and Porto Santo: Together for Mozambique campaign would like to say ‘Thank You’ to everyone who has contributed to their campaign. At a press conference the Regional Secretary, Rita Andrade announced that four tons of water, two tons of canned food, two tons of blue soap and bleach and almost a ton of clothing has been donated to the cause. A last minute delivery of 450 kg of nappies caused slight havoc as the total amount of donations exceeded the size of the container. However, the shipment will go ahead as planned.
In addition, the Regional Secretary for Health, Pedro Ramos announced that with the kind support of ten health product distributors on the island, they were able to send 15,000 units of medicine to help combat cholera, and other infections and diseases that are now prevalent in the country.
In his closing speech, Pedro Ramos reiterated that as a country ‘Madeira could not stand idly by’ and that the initiative had exceeded all expectations.
