Porto Santo Welcomes Australian MasterChef Finalist

The 2019 “Rota do Tuna Festival” which takes between the 4th and 9th June in Porto Santo has attracted some of the most prestigious and knowledgeable national and international chefs. Notwithstanding this year’s ambassador José Cordeiro, other chefs include prestigious Portuguese chef António Vieira, José Antonio Goye, Italian Carmine Basile, Frenchman Yves Gautier, Japanese chefs Hirotoshi Ogawa and Shinya Koike and the 2018 Australian MasterChef finalist Ben Borsht.

The Festival features gastronomic competitions, show-cooking, music, photography, dance and various workshops, as well as the opportunity to meet and talk to local fishermen.

The gastronomic competition ‘Tuna is the Star,’ promises to be one of the highlights of the event and is open to kitchen professionals with restaurants in Porto Santo; the competition will select the three best chefs. This year, in addition to the ‘Restaurant’ category a ‘Professional’ category has been included.

Entrance to the festival is free. However, the lunch and dinner menus are priced at €20 and €25 respectively. The festival promises diners a diverse and rich tuna menu from typical dishes to more exotic and innovative presentations. And as everyone says, “Porto Santo is the world capital of tuna.”
