Young Madeiran accordionist Lucas Faria won first prize in the category A (youngest) at the Folefest Festival in Lisbon last month.
Lucas, a student at the Directorate of Arts and Multimedia Education Services (DSEAM) is taught by Professor Slobodan Sarcevic. The boy’s performances were considered to be the best in his category as he performed pieces by Ferreira, Mussorgsky and Beloshitsky for his solo and chamber music recitals. The win was not only a debut fairy tale come true, but it is the first time that a Madeiran student has won an award in this event.
The Folefest Festival was initially organised in 2007 and aims to promote the accordion in Portugal through a series of workshops and events, including the annual Accordion Festival and Competition.
