The Foreigners and Borders Service (SEF) recently carried out a series of hotel inspections in Machico, Calheta and Câmara de Lobos.
The objective was to detect any criminal or counter-administrative processes, such as the hiring of illegal workers or not declaring the correct information about foreign nationals staying in hotels to the Sistema de informação de Boletins de Alojamento (SIBA).
During the searches, one foreigner was discovered in Calheta to be living in an ‘irregular situation’ and was advised that he had to leave Madeira within twenty days. In addition, reporting irregularities were discovered and administration orders have been served. As such, any one not complying with SIBA guidelines is liable for a €200 – €2000 fine.
