On the 5th of February, the President of Madeira, Miguel Albuquerque visited the new Anona export centre in Santana. During his visit, he praised the fruit saying that not only had it been certified and safeguarded, but it was also far superior to its Spanish counterpart.
The centre currently processes 700kg of Anona’s every week which are then sent to the continent by air. However, due to their popularity other countries, including the UK, were now submitting orders. On hearing this, the president said that he did not doubt that the market will continue to grow.
