On the 6th of February at 6 pm, the Municipal Library of Funchal will be holding a lecture by Donald Silva, Professor Emeritus of the University of Hampshire, on ‘Foreign Entrepreneurs of Madeira.’
The lecture will cover many of the renowned personalities who contributed to the progress of the island during the 18th, 19th and 20th century. Notable entrepreneurs include Elizabeth Phelps, Robert Kalley, Richard Lowe, John Howard March, Robert Page, Gunther Maul and Alexander Zino.
Donald has been a frequent visitor to Madeira for the past 40 years and can trace his ancestral roots back to Campanário. He has also written several books about Madeira including his historical novel ‘The Black Kestrel.’
